Valley of Fire is a trove of Aztec sandstone formations — the result of shifting sand dunes about 150 million years ago. However, it wasn’t the red hot glow of the ancient sandstone outcrops or the incredible sunset that captured my attention, it was the plant life scattered across the desert terrain both sculptural and surreal. The iconography of the 2,500-year-old petroglyphs is historic but stylistically relevant today and the swirling patterns on the rock faces were delicate but contrasted the strength of the imprinted stone.

All unexpected moments of beauty.
